About asphalt driveway installation

A new driveway, built from the ground up

A new driveway starts with layout: where it meets the road, how it curves, how wide it should be for the vehicles you park, and where the water will go. Then we excavate to firm soil, lay and compact the stone base, and pave.

Turning gravel into asphalt is one of the most common driveway upgrades. Existing gravel can sometimes become part of the new base after it's regraded and compacted, which can keep the cost down. We'll tell you honestly whether yours is usable.

Questions

Asphalt Driveway Installation FAQ

More questions
Can you pave over my gravel driveway?

Often, yes. If the existing gravel is deep and firm enough, we regrade and compact it as part of the base. Thin or muddy gravel needs more stone or excavation first. We check during the estimate.

How long does a new driveway take?

Most residential installs take one to three days from excavation to paving, depending on size and how much base work is needed. Weather can move the schedule.

When can I drive on my new driveway?

Wait about three days before driving on it and longer before parking heavy vehicles. Fresh asphalt stays soft for a while, especially in summer heat, so avoid turning the steering wheel while parked.
